Student bodies condemn burning of school, urge Govt to book culprits

Eminent student bodies of Jiribam unit have strongly condemned the burning down of Babukhal Primary School by suspected Kuki militants on the intervening night of July 13 and 14, 2024.Addressing media persons during a press conference held today at the office of District Committee Jiribam of a student body, Thanil Thokchom president of the student body termed the act of setting ablaze a school as barbaric amid the ongoing efforts to foster an undisturbed academic atmosphere.
Stating that the Jiribam unit of Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF), Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) and Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA) and another student body strongly denounced the act, Thanil said that both the warring communities of the prevailing conflict should be sensible enough to keep out educational institutes and alike from the acts of violence.
Thanil urged the State Government and relevant authorities to implement strict measures to protect the education sector from these acts of violence to avoid deprivation of access to education which is a fundamental right of every individual.
Highlighting that attacking educational institutions may lead to a plethora of unwanted outcomes, he urged the Government to take up strong measures to book the culprits involved in the act and award stem punishments as per the law.
Today's press meet was also attended by Sinam Iringamba president MSF District Committee Jiribam; Konthoujam Somorjit president KSA District Council Jiribam and Thokchom Santosh, president DESAM Jiribam.
