Source: The Sangai Express / DIPR

Imphal, September 14 2022: Governor La Ganesan has said that the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) has accelerated its speed of development within a short span of time.

The Institute has been rendering humanitarian service to the people of the State and striving towards enhancement of academic and research activities.

Speaking as chief guest at the 'Recognition of BDS course cum 6th Foundation Day of Dental College, JNIMS' held today at the auditorium of the Institute, the Governor said, the mission of this institute is to educate and impart knowledge to the students and train them in the clinics thereby rendering good service and care to the patients.

He said, there are many specialized branches in the institute.

The faculty members are highly skilled and proficient academicians and clinicians are working hard to make the institute the best of its kind in the North East.

Reminding that doctors should not only be able but devoted too, the Governor said, confidence in doctors goes a long way in effecting recovery.

They must have the healing touch.

On the importance of dental education, La Ganesan said, it occupies a place of pride in the field of medical studies.

He continued that the basic aim of the dental colleges is to provide health-oriented courses that emphasize the prevention of oral diseases.

With increasing awareness in oral health and surge in the demand for cosmetic dental care, the need for trained professionals in this field are ever increasing.

There is an increasing curiosity among the youth, particularly girls to take up dentistry as a chosen area of profession.

India has more than 250 dental institutions producing 15,000 to 20,000 BDS graduates every year.

Governor appealed to the doctors, nurses and paramedics to establish a good rapport with their patients who are mostly poor and needy.

Health Minister Dr Sapam Ranjan Singh while speaking at the celebration said, the Government at the Centre and the State is committed to providing a proper healthcare system as this sector is one of the focus areas.

He said, with an aim to minimize pocket expenses by the people in healthcare, schemes like PMJAY & CMHT have been introduced and many people have been benefited.

Jan Andolan and Jan Bhagidari campaigns have also been launched to make people aware about the benefits given through different schemes in the sector.

The Minister continued that efforts will be made to cover all needy people and also people in the peripheral areas under the schemes.

Government facilities have been opened in different parts of the State.

Reiterating that there is a need for a holistic approach in developing the healthcare system in the State, Dr Ranjan appealed to all the stakeholders for their cooperation and support.

The Governor also distributed certificates to the meritorious students of the Institute who bagged positions in the University examinations.

Additional Chief Secretary (Health) Vumlunmang Vualnam also spoke on the occasion.

JNIMS Director Prof (Dr) L Deben Singh; Prof (Dr) T Rajen Singh, Dean (Academics), JNIMS; Prof (Dr) Nidarsh D Hegde, Principal, Dental College, JNIMS; Prof (Dr) Kh Lokeshwar Singh, Medical Superintendent, faculty members, doctors and students participated in the celebration.
