Itanagar/Assam, August 13 2018:
Manipuri Welfare Society of Arunachal Pradesh (MWSAP) observed 175th Patriotic Day at the conference Hall of RK Mission Hospital today.
13th August is a significant day for the people of Manipur and those who are living outside the State.
It is on this day that two martyrs of Manipur, Tikendrajit Singh and Thangal General are commemorated and remembered for their bravery.
It is worth mentioning that the Anglo-Manipur war of 1891 was a short but noteworthy struggle between a tiny sovereign country and the world's greatest empire, British.
A press release issued by secretary general of MWSAP stated that the war marked the end of an era and the opening of a new one in the history of Manipur, where Manipur lost its sovereignty and independent status and a new rule of the British was introduced in the kingdom.
This war also marked the complete occupation of India sub-continent by the British, it stressed.
Floral tributes were paid to the departed freedom fighters while a recitation of patriotic poems was also held as part of the occasion.
Meanwhile, a voluntary blood donation camp was also organised in collaboration with NSS Cell, NERIST.
During the camp, a total of 20 units of blood had been collected by the blood bank of RK Mission Hospital, it added.
The members of the society pledged to work for the development of society and the country.
In another function held at Assam, the 127th Patriots' Day was observed by Assam Manipur Sahitya Parishad Padum Pukhri Branch at Manipur Kala Mandir Bazar, Hojai.
JCILPS co-convenor YK Dhiren Meetei and general secretary of United Peoples' Front (IFF) Manipur Usham Niranjan attended among others.
