Imphal facelift underway ahead of Sangai Festival

Imphal, November 11 2022: Beautification of Imphal city is being taken up in full swing ahead of the Manipur Sangai Festival, which is all set to be organised after a gap of two years, as the government is planning to make this year's edition to be the grandest ever.

The main objective of the festival, which will be held from November 21 to 30, is to showcase the unity and oneness of the state apart from promoting tourism and local handloom & handicraft sector.

In this line, the government would be hosting the festival this time at various locations in different districts of the state.

The venues include Hapta Kangjeibung, Mapal Kangjeibung, Bhagyachanda Open Air Theatre, City Convention Centre, Ibudhou Marjing Khufam (Heingang), MSFDS (Pal ace Compound), Makhel, Koirengei, Khuman Lampak, Mao, Behiang, Khuga, Nilakuthi Food Park, Thangapat and Moirang Khunou.

Cleaning and beautification of surrounding areas of the festival venues are being carried out on mission mode apart from preparing the festival venues.

Road medians are being repainted and adorned with LED decoration lights.

The Moirang Khunou venue will have replicas of traditional houses of indigenous Communities of the state apart from commercial and food stalls.

International Polo Tournament will be held at Mapal Kangjeibung and CM Sagol Kangjei Tournament at Kangla Kangjeibung.

Adventure sports events will be organised at Khuman Lampak Sports complex and indigenous folk music events at Nilakuthi Food Park.

Delegates from neighbouring countries and ambassadors of different countries are expected to visit the state for the festival.

Keeping in view of the festivity and visit of national and foreign dignitaries, police are putting in place stringent security measures to prevent any unwanted incidents.

Search operations are being carried out on large scale, especially in areas near tourist destinations.

As part of the security measures, Imphal West district police commandos conducted search operations at Chingmeirong Mamang Leikai from 6:35 am to 8:30 am on Friday.

During the search, 220 individuals were verified and 70 houses Searched.

However, there is no report of any arrest made.

In another search operation conducted at Ngari Gali, Naga Nala area, Kasturi Crossing and Dharmasala from 3.30 pm to 4 pm, the district commandos verified 145 individuals out of whom five were detained as they could not produce any valid identification documents.

However, they were later released after further verification at City Police station.
