Imphal, May 10 2009: MANIPUR POLICE Sunday expressed concerned over the use of widows and women of broken family in carrying out their extortion activities taking advantage of their economic dependents as two women (both widows), activists of KCP (MC) Lamyanba Khuman have been nabbed today by a team of Imphal east police commandos from near an oil pump at Lamlong Bazar.

With the rounding up of the two KCP women activists, police also claimed foiling of abduction of a woman, wife of a government officer who allegedly tried to take captivity by them in connection with monetary demand of the group.

SDPO, Imphal east district police, L Birbabu today speaking to the media while producing two widows at the district police headquarter said that some militant outfits in the state are engaging widows with some of them living with HIV/AIDS in carrying out their extortion and other activities.

The two widows identified as Naorem (N) Maibam (O) Thoibi alias Echantombi (33) wife of late Choaba Singh of Moreh ward no.9 and Maibam (N) Thangjam (O) Bala alias Ngamkheingakpi (35) wife of late Bijoy of same locality with the former were apprehended by a team of Imphal east district police commandos as activists of the KCP(MC) Lamyanba Khuman.

A 9mm pistol with two live rounds of ammunition was also recovered from the possession of one of the widow, Bala during an operation at Lamlong Bazar near an oil pump under Porompat police station this morning at around 10.30 pm.

They have been rounded up during an operation launched based on specific information that some militants are collecting money from government officers by summoning them at a shop in the Bazar.

Both widows were HIV positive women, SDPO, Birbabu revealed.

The SDPO said that the two women were trying to take captivity of a woman who came to meet with them with the money they demanded for taking another amount of money which the group had demanded earlier but failed to pay.

The same instant had occurred in a private hospital which Rs 50 lakhs demanded by the group was negotiated at Rs 8 lakhs and forcibly taken the money they demanded earlier after taken into captivity the woman who came to deliver the money.

Thoibi has two children and was arrested earlier also as an active member of the KCP in October 2008 and she is having relation with one Pamen hailing from Kwakeithel who used to stay together in hotels in Imphal at the night time.

While, Bala has no children and had trained as a cadre of the KCP(MC) Lamyanba Khuman under army no.60.She obtained the training at 3rd batch (Women wing), said the SDPO to the media persons.

She is also maintaining relationship with one Chaoba Singh of Imphal.

This not the first of its kind which widows, women living with HIV/AIDS and from the broken families are nabbed by the police in the state allegedly for engaging in militancy related activities.

They were rounded up with another third woman who later confirmed to be wife of a government employee summoned by the two widow women for negotiation in connection with the monetary demand served the KCP(MC) Lamyangba Khuman group.

She has been freed by the police commandos after proper verification, the police officer added.

Some of the militant outfits are utilizing such women in collecting party funds from the general public and government officials, observed the SDPO who commented that these groups are not revolutionary in the true sense but gangs extorting money in the name revolutions.

If, they have the true revolutionary spirits then why they used such women who are victims of HIV/AIDS in such odd jobs instead of treating them with love and rehabilitate them, he added expressing his strong concern over the current trends of militancy in the state.
