Akaba fondly remembered

Imphal, November 09 2009: Chingsubam Akaba, the man who took important role in reviving of the ingenious Meetei scripts, original Meetei religion and strengthening the brotherhood love and harmony among the people in valley and hills of the state was remembered today on his 65th birth anniversary.

A function to commemorate the day organized Chingsubam Akaba Ningsing Lup (CANL) jointly with Kangleipak Chanura Lamjing Lup and Debajani Leima Foundation was held at Manipur Press Club, Major Khul.

President of the Manipur People Party (MPP), Dr Nimaichand Luwang graced the function as chief guest and former state minister RV Mingthing presided over the function.

Member of the Kangla Fort Board, Sairem Nilbir, retired principal of DM College of Commerce and director of Mutuwa Museum, Mutuwa Bahadur also attended the function as guest of honours.

Floral tributes were offered to the photograph of the late luchingpurel and presentation of songs written by the leader marked the inaugural function of the observance.

Speaking on the occasion as chief guest, MPP president, Dr Nimaichand Luwang recalling works of Akaba said that he was the man who tried to unite regional political parties.

His assassination was a political conspiracy, he alleged.

Even though he was murdered, his inspiration of uniting the regional political parties in the state fulfilled.

But unfortunately, the culprits behind his murder are still at dark.

Nimaichand also remembered Akaba as a man who built up the movement of reviving Meetei indigenous scripts.

He took part in giving awareness the people on the scripts by going from village to village.

His role in reviving the scripts will be remembered forever.

Not only efforted for reviving the Meetei religion, he also tried to explore and revive indigenous cultures and traditions of the hill people of the state.

President of the function, Sairem Nilbir said, Akaba's life can be viewed from different angles.

To know him is not an easy task.

Only after deep study on his life and work, he could be realized.

A book on his work and life need to be written so that his role in the reviving of Meetei scripts and his tireless efforts to overcome challenges coming ahead of him in the process be remembered by the future generation, Nilbir said.

Addressing the gathering, former state minister, RV Minthing also recalling the works of Akaba said that he tried to revive the indigenous scripts because he knew that as a group of people there should have at least its owned script.

During his life time, Akaba not only tried to revive the indigenous script of the Meetei apart from strengthening the brotherhood love between the people in valley and hills.

He was man of secularism, Minthing added.

Mutuwa Bahadur also talked on the life of the noted personality.
