Imphal, May 02 2009: Various organisations participating in the Peoples' Convention on Right to Life organised by the People's Platform Secretariat (PPS) at Khuman Lampak Youth Centre have urged the government to extend assistances to the 'deprived' section of the people.

Interacting with media persons today at the Youth Centre, participants of the three-day convention, which began yesterday, Convenor of Self Support Group, (HIV/AIDS Widows)Wongchung Jajo admits that widows infected with HIV/AIDS have faced different problems while drawing the attention of the government to address their woes and plights.

Wongchung wants the government to set up ART Centre each at every district headquarters as well as at the block level and to avail ART service to widows infected with HIV/AIDS in far flung and interior areas.

She also wants the government to arrange pension for HIV/AIDS infected widows so as to enable them support their family.

To frame policy for providing free schooling to children whose parents have been infected with HIV/AIDS, to broaden the state drug policy and to arrange for providing vocational training courses to HIV/AIDS patients, are some of the policies which Wungchung Jajo wants the government to put into action.

Secretary of Healing Group of Affected Peoples, G Makochai yearns for the government to strengthen the drug abuse treatment centres of the state.

He wants the government to provide free Liver Functioning Test, Hepatitis C, Viral Load Count (VLC), Kidney Functioning Test, etc to drug abusers of the state.

He also urges the government to provide free medicines for drug abusers undergoing treatment and to supply nutritional supports to patients.

Makochai also wants the government to set up State Mental Hospital or a Trauma Centre in the state to treat mental problem arising out of drug abuse.

Convenor of Peoples' Platform Secretariat (PPS), W Prabha said that a section of the people who were assured works under NREGS have not been provided adequate wages coupled with the failure to provide them hundred days work in a year.

The minimum rate of Rs 83 for daily wage earners under NREGS has not been paid to the workers fully due to technical defect, Prabha said while urging the government to relief the people from the predicaments immediately.

Prabha said that there were many anomalies in issuing old age pension while adding that family welfare scheme doesn't reach the targeted beneficiaries due to the intervention of MLA, agents and village authorities.

While citing flaws in various government sponsored beneficiary schemes like PDS, Health Care, etc Prabha urges the government to look into the plights of the economically deprived sections and address their needs.

The organisations have also decided to highlight the matters to the state Chief Minister, Governor, President of India, Prime Minister and DONER Ministry.
