All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU), Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF), Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM), Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA), Students' Welfare Association of Kangleipak (SWAK) and Students' Union of Kangleipak (SUK) have come out strongly against the last night's incident at Manipur University in which a police team led by one Sub-Inspector P Poujalung of Sangsat Police Station, UKhrul drove inside the University campus in a numberless bullet proof Gypsy and assaulted students as well as Home Guard personnel on security duty at Mens' Hostel no.3 .
In a joint statement, Secretary General of AMSU Dipanjit Ningthoujam, President of MSF Ng Milan, Assistant Secretary General of DESAM Arambam Thoithoi, General Secretary of KSA Ph Manao, General Secretary of SWAK Sinam Punsiba and President of SUK L Jayantakumar denounced the conduct of the armed police team in barging in and assaulting the student hostellers and security guards without any valid reason as an act of cowardice.
It is a challenge against student community, the joint statement said, while questioning with whose permission and for what reason the drunk police team had entered the University campus in a numberless vehicle and why an attempt on the lives of the student hostellers was made.
The campus of Manipur University is one place where there is restriction on the entry of students at any time of the night, the joint statement pointed out, and demanded the Government of Manipur to take up necessary action against the police team involved in the last night's incident so as to ensure that similar incidents are not repeated.
Otherwise, the Government should be held responsible for any eventuality in this regard, the joint statement observed categorically.
The joint statement also hailed the student hostellers of the University for teaching a lesson to the intruding police team fearlessly.
