Public participation must to make Imphal clean, says Mayor

Mayor of the Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC), L Lokeshwar has said that the corporation only cannot make the Imphal City clean without public participation.
He made the statement at GM Hall during the closing ceremony of the 'Clean Imphal Campaign' which was held from October 23 under Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban.
12 outstanding employees of IMC who worked selflessly in the fight against COVID-19, were also encouraged with presents during the closing ceremony of the cleanliness campaign.
Speaking at the occasion, L Lokeshwar stated that a clean Imphal city cannot be achieved no matter how hard sanitary workers, cleaners and sweepers of IMC put in effort if the public has to flout cleanliness measures of IMC and to dump garbage at will.
As such there is a need for upholding and respecting rules set by IMC to ensure cleanliness of the city, he said.
He also lauded the spirit IMC workers who undertook their duties in COVID-19 containment zones braving all the threats.
Chairman of IMC's Public Health and Sanitation Committee, H Nutanchandra who also attended the event, also called on the State Government to acknowledge the role of IMC workers amidst COVID-19 crisis.
He also appealed to the State Government to release their monthly remunerations ahead of Ningol Chakouba festival.
MAHUD Director, Th Harikumar also echoed the need for collective participation of all in the cleanliness drive to make every nook and corner of Imphal city clean and litter free.
He also apprised all present that due process is underway to provide salary of IMC employees timely in the wake of the festive season.
