Hunger strikers pulled up, others continue

Imphal, August 21 2015 : Soon after eight DESAM members in-cluding one juvenile girl student, who have been staging indefinite hunger strike demanding ILPS, have been pulled up from their agitation venue located near their Keishampat office in the wee hours today, nine other stu-dents including two girls have begun indefinite hunger strike at the same place from today.

They have been identified as Mayanglambam Kanglei Meetei s/o M Rameshwar of Kakching Wairi, 3rd semester student of DMC of Science, general secretary of DMC of Commerce Students' Union Loktongbam Sanatomba s/o Shamungou of Khumbong Makha Leikai, 5th semester student of DMC of Commerce, Wangoi Higher Secon- dary School Debate and Extension secretary Wangkhei- mayum Malemnganbi Chanu of Hiyangthang Maning Awang Leikai, Ningombam Sanjoykanta s/o N Ibotombi of Shamusang Shantipur, 3rd semester student of DMC of Commerce, Yumnam Loya-ngamba s/o Y Nimai of Yairipok Top Chingtha, 3rd semester student of DMC of Commerce, general secertary of DESAM Bishnupur district council Konjengbam Romit s/o K Rajen of Moi-rangthem Leijubam Leikai, BA 5th semester student of Moirang College, DESAM CC unit secertary Suraj Kshe-trimayum s/o Ksh Khamba of Sagolband Tera Loukrakpam Leikai, Moirangthem Nelson s/o M Ibomcha of Langthabal Mantrikhong Mayai Leikai, a class XII student and Thingujam Henthoibi d/o Th Ibotombi of Thoubal Kiyam Makha Leikai, class XII student of Ibotonsana Girls' Higher Secondary School.

Hunger strikers pulled up, others continue

Among the nine students, three are juveniles.

Meanwhile, hunger striker Thongam Apabi (65) has been pulled up from Thang-meiband at around 7.45 am today.

After her arrest, a 45-year-old man identified as Lai- mayum Krishna Kumar Sharma s/o (L) Madhob of Thangmeiband Yumnam Leikai Watham Leirak has begun indefinite hunger strike at the same venue from around 10 am today.

Hunger striker Tongbram Jetan (26) has also been arrested by police from his Takyel Kolom agitation venue today.

Two other persons namely Lourembam Dipu and Tongbram Buster are continuing the stir at the same place.

On the otherhand, DESAM Thoubal unit members Sapam Rebita Chanu of Thoubal Wangmataba, Laitonjam Anamika of Charangpat and Khundongbam Rabi have been picked up by police from Thoubal Wangmataba at around 4.15 am today.

After their arrest, Maibam Memicha of Thoubal Wangkhem, Moirangthem Arundash of Thoubal Kshetri Leikai and Lourembam Manimatum of Thoubal Wangmataba have begun hunger strike at the same place from around 7.30 am today.

Meanwhile, two other members of Apunba Nupi Khunai Lamjing Meira Lup, Yairipok branch have joined the indefinite hunger strike to demand implementation of ILPS, our Thoubal correspondent reports.

Apunba Nupi Khunai Lamjing Meira Lup president Asem Ibetombi started an indefinite hunger strike yesterday at Yairipok Laimanai Thongkhong following which two other members of the lup, Oinam Sumati and Khulakpam Tabob Bibi, joined the hunger strike at Yairipok Tampha Keithel today.

In the meantime, one Naorem Romesh, 40, s/o Naorem Thoiba of Nambol Kongkham Leikai has also launched an indefinite hunger strike at Nambol Bazar starting from 11:45am today.

Romesh is a social worker and the founder of Kids Centre, Nambol.

Speaking to media persons, Romesh said he will continue with the strike until a Bill to regulate the influx of non-locals is passed by the State Government.
