Assistant driver from state found dead in Assam

Assistant driver of a truck was found dead and the driver in unconscious state in Assam's Jirighat area on Tuesday.
The two, native of Manipur, parked their truck at Jiribam and headed towards neighbouring Assam on Tuesday morning.
Sources said that the truck arrived at Jiribam from Imphal on Monday.
On Tuesday morning, the two parked the truck in the compound of a petrol pump and went out for tea.
Later, they were found lying in neighbouring Jirighat.
Upon checking, the found the assistant driver Thokchom Michael (28) son of Th Surchand of Keinou Thongthak, Monkhang Leikai in Bishnupur district, dead.
The driver Abung was unconscious but alive.
Members of All Jiribam Road Transporters' & Drivers' Union, and some drivers said that they were part of a convoy of truck for transporting rice to FC1 warehouses.
After they left for tea on Tuesday morning, fellow drivers tried to communicate with them after waiting for a few hours but could not get through.
Amid a growing tension, they received information about two individuals lying near a Dhaba opened near a tea estate in Assam's Jirighat, which is next to Jiribam of Manipur.
They rushed to the spot and found the two lying there.
According to their version, the driver was found unconscious inside the cabin of a cement laden truck coming towards Jiribam while the assistant driver was found lying dead near the truck.
Police took the two to Silchar Medical College and Hospital, where the driver is undergoing treatment and the assistant driver in the mortuary.
The cement laden truck, in which the driver was found unconscious, bearing registration number MN05C 1205, has been impounded by Assam police and its driver detained.
The driver was also found providing false information of its registration number to a police outpost at Jirighat following which Jirighat police have registered a case for investigation.
