Thoubal, September 05 2024:
Armed persons, including one woman, dressed in civilian clothing made an attempt to abduct a woman sleeping in her house at Wangkhem Muslim Khul under Yairipok police station in Thoubal district at 2:30 pm yesterday.
The woman they tried to abduct has been identified as Mumtaz (31), wife of Sm Firoj Khan who is the son of Mv Siraj Ahamed.
As the armed miscreants tried to drag her into one of the three vehicles they came in, locals rushed to her rescue upon hearing the commotion and the abductors absconded.
They allegedly also took a mobile phone.
A report has been lodged at Yairipok police station in this connection.
Meanwhile, the Joint Coordinating Committee of ELYSA, PYC Phouden and WMDA Wangkhem Muslim has strongly condemned the incident and called for an end to such abduction attempts and incidents.
Addressing the media during a press conference today at Wangkhem Muslim Khul, Mumtaz shared that she was resting on her bed yesterday afternoon as she was feeling unwell when she heard a woman's voice ask if anybody was home.
When she opened her eyes, an unknown woman was in her bedroom along with 5/6 armed unidentified men.
According to Mumtaz, they asked her to go with them to Phouden but refused to tell her why or who they were.
Stating that they were sent by their "superiors", they attempted to put her in one of their vehicles but fortunately locals rushed to save her and the unknown persons fled swiftly.
Calling for an end to such abduction bids, Mumtaz has urged the State Government to look into the matter.
On the other hand, Committee general secretary Mohd Yasser told media persons that yesterday's abduction bid by armed individuals has caused fear and anxiety among the locals.
He appealed against the practice of armed men abducting people in the name of delivering "vigilante justice" and creating an atmosphere of dread and intimidation among the locals.
