Good leaders must for good governance: Karam Shyam

Imphal, July 05 2021: Langthabal MLA Karam Shyam has stated that the worthiness of a leader should not be judged by his wealth but by his leadership quality and good leaders are must in order to bring good governance, peace and development in the state.

He was attending the 75th birth anniversary of Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) leader (late) Ram Vilas Paswan held at Lilong Chajing Mairenkhong community hall on Monday.

LJP Manipur state and LJP Langthabal unit jointly organised the function.

Speaking at the event, Shyam, who is also the national vice president of the party, recounted how the late Paswan, who was from Dalit community, stood up against all odds and emerged as a popular leader.

He became an MLA at the age of 21 and had remained as Lok Sabha MP for 10 terms and Rajya Sabha MP for two times.

He was also cabinet minister in different governments.

He founded LJP in 2000 and the party has now become one of the major parties of the country.

Unfortunately, some individuals are trying to disintegrate the party though it has not been even one year since the founder leader died.

Out of the 75 national executive members, nine leaders including five MPs have quit the party but 66 leaders are extending full support to his son Chirag Paswan.

A public march called 'Ashirwad Jatra' is being organised in Bihar to show the party's strength on Monday, the MLA said.

He also spoke on how the late leader stood for minority communities, OBC, STs, and challenged the government for their rights.

Possessing the spirit of sacrifice, commitment, transparency, sincerity, kindness and generosity is must for a public leader, he said while lauding the way how the late leader stood for the poor and downtrodden people.

Unfortunately, people are looking for money power in a leader instead of his moral character, sincerity and integrity, which is unfortunate.

The public should choose the right representative in order to bring peace, development and prosperity in the state, he said, while urging all to exercise their voting rights wisely in the forthcoming state assembly election.

The MLA also handed over Rs 10,000 cash to local authority of Haoreibi for achieving the highest vaccination rate so far.

He also presented Rs 10,000 to Pungdongbam Thoibi of Heirok, a post graduate student of GP Women's College, for providing the right answer on the reason for him using bicycle, on Facebook.

He then said that Langthabal AC has attained the highest vaccination rate in Imphal West district.

Right now, nine mobile teams along with Kakwa PHC and some other PHCs are carrying out vaccination drives in the constituency.

The first phase of mass vaccination programme concluded on Monday with a record number of over 8000 people getting the Covid-19 vaccine shots.

Further initiatives will be taken up in coordination with local clubs and Covid volunteers to organise mass vaccinations in different localities, he assured, while urging all to inform him if they have a minimum of 150 beneficiaries for vaccination.

He also appealed to all to get vaccinated stating that it is the only permanent weapon to fight the Covid-19 pandemic.

LJP state leaders, along with LJP Langthabal unit president Laishram Birenyaima, Sanjoy Ahanthem and Kanba Meitei were also present at the event.
