Narcotic drugs worth 20 lakh seized at Imphal Post Office

Imphal, October 30 2014 : A huge quantity of illegal narcotic drugs worth about 20 lakh which were mailed by parcel-post to eight consignees in Imphal from New Delhi and Kolkata were seized at Imphal Post Office by a team of Narcotic Cell, Imphal East Police on Thursday.

A total of 10 parcels that contained spasmo-proxyvon (SP) and N10 tablets were found during the seizure.

The parcel-post consignments were mailed to 10 different persons in Imphal.

The senders' names were Shankar Prasad Sarai of New Delhi and Bijoy Singh, Bijoy Sharma, Raju Sharma and Shankar Sharma of Kolkata, police said.

The police named the eight consignees as N Rajen Singh c/o PP Store, Keishampat Junction, Sandwip Kumar of Paona bazaar, Th Sushila Devi c/o AT Variety Store, Keishampat Junction, H Somorjit Singh c/o Razani Variety Store, Thangal bazaar, Kh Toni Meitei c/o RP Store, MV Avenue, Thangal bazaar, M Pawan Kumar of Paona bazaar and N Birendra Singh of Thangal bazaar.

Nine of the 10 parcels contained SP tablets wrapped in 18 black plastic bags.

Each bag contained 1,526 SP tablets in strips while each of the packets of N10 tablets inside the separate parcel filled with 1,437 in strips.

The police have registered a case in connection with the seizure of the contraband narcotics and started investigation into it.
