RUSA to give a new look to higher education: Okendro

Like the Sarva Shikshya Abhiyan (SSA) and Rashtriya Madhyamik Shikshya Abhiyan (RMSA) which have brought significant changes in primary and secondary education in the country, a new centrally sponsored educational scheme known as "Rashtriya Ucchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA)" would be launched soon for development of the higher education system, Education Minister M Okendro has said today.
He was speaking as Chief Guest of the Freshers' Meet of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya, Mayang Imphal here.
Minister Okendro further said that well qualified teachers have been recruited under SSA and RMSA.
Likewise, college teachers would also be recruited under RUSA from among well qualified candidates by maintaining utmost transparency.

He maintained that Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidalaya is a residential school meant for girls belonging to backward classes.
The Vidyalaya has been opened up at Mayang Imphal for Imphal West district.
The girl students are provided free education and accommodation by the Government for their empowerment and welfare in the society, Okendro noted. Attending as the functional president, Works and Transport Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar said that the Education Department must be appreciated for its dedication and commitment to uplift the education system in the State.
Necessary infrastructures and other requirements would be given to the Vidyalaya within a short period of time, he added.
Deputy Commissioner of Imphal West K Radhakumar said that Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas have been opened up all over the country to provide educational facilities to girls belonging to backward classes.
About 100 students are currently studying at this Mayang Imphal Vidyalaya.
Education Director H Deleep stated that there is provision for opening of 11 Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas in the State.
The construction of school building is targeted for completion by March next year, he noted.
The freshers' meet was also attended by Chairperson of Mayang Imphal Municipal Council Th Rajmuhon Meitei as Guest of Honour.
The students of the Vidyalaya presented various cultural songs and dances during the meet.
