252 ASHA Deployed in Tamenglong

Tamenglong, May 18 2011:
On the second day of the three days Bharat Nirman campaign at Tamenglong district of Manipur two resource persons spoke on National Rural Health Mission, NRHM.
In his speech as resource person Dr Gaithaorung, Chief Medical Officer Tamenglong, CMO/DMD said that with coming of NRHM in the district health of the people is improving and the death rate of infant and maternity has tremendously reduce.
He said under the NRHM the health centres' infrastructure from village level- Primary Sub- Centre to PHC and District hospital has been upgrades and renovates.
The District Health Mission Society under NRHM has appointed one ASHA per 1000 population.
Under NRHM, Village Health Committee was formed with an aims to provide better health facilities to village level.
In her speech as resource person Abuana Gonmei, DPM(NRHM) Tamenglong said that the District Health Mission Society, DHMS Tamenglong under NRHM has 74 staff employed.
DHMS Tamemenglong also appointed as many as 252 Accredited Social Health Activities, (ASHA) in the district to provide health facilities at the door steps even in remote far flung villages of Tamenglong.
The ASHA in the Tamenglong district are educated some are complete graduates, 12 pass and others.
With the help of them (ASHA) the health is improving in the district.
The DHMS has organized 28 out reach camps and Health Mela during 2010- 2011, she said.
The DHMS Tamenglong also trained up the doctors as there was no specialist doctors posted in Tamenglong district.
The DHMS also trained the nurses and other lab- technicians.
To provide more health facilities to the people, the DHMS also trained 30 school teachers 435 Panchayati Raj Institution (village authority/ADC)
Regarding Janani Suraksha Yojana,( JSY) she said that many pregnant women prefer home delivery rather then institutional delivery because the expenditures from far villagers who came to district hospital or to PHC could not reimburse as JSY scheme has provide only Rs 700 only.
Whereas the pregnant woman has to accompany atlest one to two attendants and there was no place to stay and above all the patients did not know how many days they have to wait for delivery, she said.

It was organsied by Press Information Bureau , Imphal in collaboration with DFP,S&DD,DAVP,AIR &DDK under the sponsorship of I&B Ministry.
As part of campaign a free check up and free medicines were provided to as many as 165 patients.
The doctors said that there was no serious disease dictate but common were dictated in the free medical camp.
