Effective women's role in society stressed on International Women's Day

Imphal, March 08 2011:
Manipur joined in the celebrations of International Women's Day with the rest of the world today.
The functions were marked by talks and discussions on the status of the women and their roles in the trouble ridden society.
KANGLEICHAL celebrated the day with a function held at Manipur Press Club.
MLA Usham Deben graced the function as chief guest and it was presided over by Th Ayangleima Chanu.
MLA Deben observed the need for ideal mothers to save Manipuri society expressing concern over the increasing domination of society by selfishness and nepotism.
When money power controls democracy, civil population reach the limit of their woes.
It has become difficult to find a good man.
In this situation, the role of women is greatly increased, the MLA said.
He appealed to the Meirapaibis to know the do's and don'ts of being the torch bearers of society, reminding that women are the reflection of the society and mothers are the stepping stones to decide the future of the society.
Y Leirikleima, president KANGLEICHAL said that the chaotic situation in the present society has been brought about because everybody acts like the authority.

The society has been deeply troubled as both UGs and SF make civilians their targets and local young women prefer to choose non-locals as their life partners and forget their culture and tradition, she said.
She further expressed concern over meirapaibis involving in mob justice and said some mairapaibis instead of trying to settle the matter in a confrontation, are in forefront of burning down or ransacking of houses of alleged culprit(s) .
The All Manipur Nupi Marup in association with Khwairamband Keithel Semkat Sagatpa, Sinpham Amasung Saktam Kanba Lup and Centre for Organisation, Reforms and Education (CORE) celebrated the day with a function held at Khwairamband Nupi Keithel.
Prayer for blessings to Keithel Lairembi and presentation of gifts to veteran women leaders, RK Radesana, Mangi, Th Rashi, Borkeina and 96 year old Khulakpam Amurei who took part in the historic Nupi Lal marked the celebration.
The day was also celebrated by the Manipur Network of Positive People (MNP+) at the conference hall of its office at Yaiskul Hiruhanba Leirak.
Jogamala, Retd Head Mistress of Mahatma Gandhi Sorbon Thingel High School and Salam Udita, general secretary MNP+ attended as chief guest and president of the function.
AMAWOVA celebrated the International Women's Day at MDU, Moirangkhom.
They observed the day with the theme "Let us carry the struggle forward" .
Th Iboyaima, president, Irabot Foundation graced the function as chief guest which was presided by Chongtham Usharani, president of the host organisation.
Dignitaries who spoke on the occasion recalled the active role taken by the state's women in 1904 and 1939 and observed that Manipuri women are in the forefront, ahead of any other women of the globe, of reformation of the society.
The day was also observed by All Manipur Democracy Women Association, Manipur Keithel Nupi Marup in association with Nupi Marup, Social Volunteers' Association, Imphal, Life Watch, Manipur State Legal Service Authority and S Kula Women's College, Nambol.
