Imphal, April 27 2025:
Even though President's Rule has been imposed in the State for over two months, the Government of India is still unable to bring a solution to the two-year old Manipur crisis, and there is no solution in sight.
This was stated by former Deputy Chief Minister Y Joykumar at the 206th birth anniversary of Sana Chahi Ahum Narendrajit.
The birth anniversary held at DIPR auditorium here today was organised by the North East India Habited People Front (NEIHPF).
Speaking at the function, Y Joykumar stated the Government of India, even after imposing President's Rule for over two months, is still unable to bring a solution to the Manipur crisis.
One cannot say there is peace or normalcy in Manipur when Meiteis cannot go through Kangpokpi and Kukis cannot come to Imphal airport, he said.
It would be hard to restore peace and normalcy without confidence building measures, he said.
The situation of Manipur is extremely critical.
Meiteis of Manipur and those settled in different parts of the world need to come together and ponder collectively on how the community can survive in the face of the growing threats and challenges, he said.
Meiteis settled outside the State have moral obligation and responsibility towards Manipur, survival of the Meitei community and restoration of durable peace in the State, Joykumar said.
Manipur does not belong to the Meiteis or Nagas exclusively.
The State belongs to all the indigenous communities settled together, he said.
Joykumar categorically stated that Kukis are not indigenous people of Manipur.
They came to Manipur not long back.
The Government of India must have a clear understanding of this fact and act accordingly, he added.
The most necessary and desirable line of action is deportation/repatriation of all illegal immigrants.
Deportation/repatriation of illegal immigrants will automatically resolve most of the major issues besieging the State, Joykumar said.
He then called upon all the people to work collectively towards restoring peace and normalcy in the State by ensuring deportation of illegal immigrants.
"There are many positive sides to granting Scheduled Tribe status to Meiteis.
When I was serving as Deputy Chief Minister, I told the BJP Government that BJP can retain power for a long time if Meiteis are granted ST status", Joykumar said.
"A prominent member of the Sangh said that it would be impossible to grant ST status to Meiteis.
On being asked why, the member said that Meiteis will grab all the quotas and reservations if they are enlisted in the ST category", he recounted.
He said that Sana Chahi Ahum Narendrajit was a martyr who dedicated his life to the cause of Manipur.
Apart from Y Joykumar, former IGP S Manglemjao, RSS Manipur general secretary S Tarunkumar Sharma, NEIHPF president Oinam Mahavir (Meehenba Khuman), Advocate Dr Chongtham Narendra and Associate Professor, History Dept Imphal College Dr Yumkhaibam Shyam Singh were also seated on the dais as presidium members.
