Imphal, November 18 2022: Tourism Director W Ibohal today informed that preparations for the Manipur Sangai Festival 2022 are almost complete.

Briefing media persons at his North AOC office this afternoon, W Ibohal said that a spectacular opening ceremony would be held at the Sangai Ethnic Park, Moirang Khunou on November 21.Union Tourism, Culture and DoNER Minister Kishan Reddy, Union MSME Minister Narayan Rane and Chief Minister N Biren would grace the opening ceremony of the 11th edition of Manipur Sangai Festival as chief guest, president and chief host Mangka Mayanglambam would perform the festival's theme song at Moirang Khunou on the opening day and it would be followed by choreographic presentation and other cultural programmes but there would be no programmes at other venues on the opening day, the Tourism Director said.

Different programmes and events would be organised the next day at Hapta Kangjeibung, BOAT, Khuman Lampak Sports Complex, Koirengei, Heingang, Nilakuthi, Mao, Makhel, Behiang and Khuga etc.

Some other events would also be held at the Sangai Captive Breeding Centre of Langol Resented Forest, MSFDS Auditorium, City Convention Centre and Imphal Peace Museum of Nambol Maibam Lotpa Ching.

Officials of the embas-sies/consulates of Thailand, Myanmar, France, Brunei and the USA have confirmed that they would attend the festival, Ibohal said.

Apart from Thailand, Bangladesh, Brunei and Japan, cultural troupes from different States of India would also perform during the festival, he said.

The Tourism Director exuded confidence that the programmes being planned at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex like MMA fights, skateboarding, BMX show, X-sports events, Muay-Thai demonstration etc would be able to draw huge crowds.

There would be a flight demonstration at Hapta Kangjeibung where a tower equipped with a telescope would be installed for viewing Imphal city, he said.

As a part of Manipur Sangai Festival 2022, the Chief Minister's Sagol Kangjei Championship 2022 was kicked off at Manung Kangjeibung, Kangla today.

An international Polo tournament would also be held at Mapan Kangjeibung, Ibohal said.

While selected movies would be screened at MSFDS, the City Convention Centre would host a tourism congress and a business summit one after another, he said.

A seminar on Sangai would be held at Imphal Peace Museum.

The Tourism Director informed that preparations have been going on for presentation of a laser beam show at Heingangching.

He said that this year's edition of Manipur Sangai Festival would be more spectacular and grander in terms of attendance.

However, Tourism Department alone would not be able to make the festival a success.

It would need cooperation of all stakeholders including other Government departments, PSUs, corporations, private firms and the public, Ibohal said.

To a query, the Tourism Director informed that the festival's budget is Rs 10 crore and it does not look like this amount would be able to meet all the expenditures.

The Tourism Department has been working to allot a separate stall for persons with disabilities.

Tickets for the festival would be sold online and also at different places.

The responsibility of selling tickets has been entrusted to a private firm, he said.

Regarding public transport, the Transport Department would certainly come out with a detailed plan through media, he added.
