Imphal, June 13 2024: The Cabinet has taken a decision to constitute a Cabinet Sub-Committee under Rule 13 of the Rules of Business of Government of Manipur for rehabilitation and resettlement of internally displaced persons (IDPs). The Cabinet further resolved to conduct elections for ADCs, Panchayats and Municipalities in September 2024 (not yet fixed) .

The Sub-Committee which is to be headed by Works Minister K Govindas as the Chairperson will have Water Resources Minister Awangbow Newmai, Health & Family Welfare Minister Dr Sapam Ranjan Singh and Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Minister Khashim Vashum as Members.

Commissioner (Home) Gyanprakash Huirem will be the Member Secretary of the Committee.

Cabinet sub-committee for re-settlement of IDPs

The terms of reference of the Cabinet Sub-Committee includes identifying the grievances of IDPs staying in relief camps, assessing the needs and requirements of persons in relief camps, supervising measures for resettlement and rehabilitation of IDPs and supervising identification of land for temporary relocation of IDPs.

The Cabinet also resolved to instruct Deputy Commissioners to complete assessment of damage inflicted by the recent floods within one week.

The Cabinet also approved to provide Rs 10,000 each to flood affected families as an immediate relief.

The Cabinet further resolved to conduct elections for ADCs, Panchayats and Municipalities in September 2024 (not yet fixed) .

The ADC elections will be held after taking opinions from the Hill Areas Committee (HAC) .
