Imphal, December 11 2021: Chief Minister N Biren Singh has categorically stated that there is no change in his stance regarding removal of AFSPA from Manipur.

Speaking to media persons by the sideline of his visit to different prominent personalities, N Biren continued that several political parties attempting to take political mileage out of AFSPA is very unfortunate.

The State Govrnment has been striving to repeal AFSPA from Manipur by highlighting the ground situation here to the Centre, the Chief Minister said.

Reiterating that the law and order situation and the problem of insurgency have declined considerably in Manipur in the last four years and a half, N Biren maintained that making the Centre aware of the sets of circumstances here are imperative before taking any critical decision.

On the Vishes Samprad Abhiyan of the BJP, the Chief Minister stated that the party is seeking suggestions and blessings from prominent personalities to take Manipur to greater heights.

Saying that the party is taking the opportunity to incorporate the opinions of experts in varied fields in its election manifesto, he added that a copy of "Transforming Manipur" which highlights the works done by the State Government in the last few years was presented to all the notable persons they met.

As a part of the programme, the Chief Minister visited Padmashree Ratan Thiyam, a prominent multifaceted artiste with rich experience in the world of theatre and sought his guidance on various initiatives taken up by the State Government.

N Biren Singh also paid his respect to Professor Ch Priyoranjan Singh, a faculty member of Economics Department, Manipur University at his residence and sought his counsel on the various initiatives taken up by the State Government.

The Chief Minister also called on Prof N Lokendra Singh, Vice Chancellor of Manipur University and Dr Bhabeshwor Tongbram, Vice Chancellor of Manipur Technical University.

N Biren discussed about ways and means to improve education sector and academic research in the State.

To uplift sports in Manipur, the Chief Minister also interacted with Olympian and Arjuna Awardee Kangujam Chinglensa at the latter's residence.

Later, N Biren Singh had an insightful meeting with Pradip Phanjoubam, a well acclaimed writer and Editor of Imphal Review of Arts and Politics.

A copy of "Transforming Manipur'' was presented to him.

Biren also called on the king of Naga folk blues and Padmashree Guru Rewben Mashangva and talked about the measures taken up to preserve traditional folk music in Manipur.
