Manipuri Sahitya Parishad bestows awards to artistes, writers

Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Imphal presented its annual Upadhi, cash and literary awards to notable artistes and writers of the State during a ceremony held at Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy (JNMDA) today.
The annual award presentation ceremony witnessed the attendance of Professor Naorem Lokendra, Vice Chancellor, Manipur University as the chief guest; Longjam Joychandra, president, Manipur Sahitya
Parishad, Imphal and Sunanda Thokchom, Secretary, Manipur State Kala Akademi Imphal as the guest of honour.
During the function, the Sahityabhushan was presented to Nongmaithem Tombi; Sahitya Sevak to Raheizuddin Sheik; Sahityabhushan to Lamabam Birmani; Sangeetbhushan to Samulailatpam Nimai Sharma (Nat Sankritan), Sangeetbhushan to Moirangthem Tikendra (Matam Eshei); Sangeetbhushan to Chaoba Kamson (Kabui folk song); Natyabhushan to Rajkumar Sanajaoba (Stage Leela); Natyabhushan to Rajkumar Sanayaima (Goura Leela); Natyabhushan to Kshetrimayum Birjit (Shumang Leela); Natyabhushan to Sagolshem Jasoda (Raas); Kalabhushan to Louriyam Thaba Leima (Thang-Ta); Kalabhushan to Hajarimayum Shyamkishor Sharma (Wari Leeba); Kalaratna to Thangjam Dashrat (Lairik Haiba) and Vidyabhushan to Tekcham Radheshyam.
The awards came with a shawl, citation, memento, kokyet (traditional head wear) etc.
In the category of cash awards, the Srimad Paramhansa Swami Yogendranath Giri Ningsing Mana was presented to Keisham Priyokumar; Nongmaithem Brajabidhu Singh Vidyabhushan Selgi Mana to Brahmacharimayum Gopiramon Sharma; Thanga Ashangbi Selgi Mana to Nongmaithem Loken; Lamabam Jadumani Ningsing Selgi Mana to Wairokpam Kamni; Guru Thokchom Angouba Ningsing Selgi Mana to Moirangthem Kumar; Ustad Debo Selgi Mana to Rajkumar Upendra and Khoirom Ingoba Award to Naoroibam Binoi.
Lastly, in the category of literary awards, Ashangbam Minaketan Ningsing Selgi Mana was conferred to Nahakpam Aruna for her book 'Ahingba Upaniyas' (Essay) and Elangbam Dinamani Sahitya Mana to Dr Athokpam Khelchandra for his book 'Manipuri Lilamacha Neinaba' (Essay).
The awards came with a cash prize, citation, shawl and memento.
Speaking as the chief guest, Professor Naorem Lokendra said that Manipur is honoured in the global stage for its beautiful art forms, culture, tradition and literature.
He lauded the contribution of Manipuri Sahitya Parishad in promoting Manipur's art, culture and literature.
Manipur has world class writers, thinkers and talented people in the realm of art, culture and sports but the State's weak economy is one of its drawbacks, he pointed out.
It is high time for people to determine and develop their skills and capture regional markets with their products.
He advised the public to work collectively to bring about political and economic modernisation.
Meanwhile, Sunanda Thokchom informed that MSKA will host its annual award presentation ceremony very soon.
Additionally, a brand new "Young Writer Award" will be introduced from this year, she added.
