Drugs worth Rs 17.50 lakh (local market) seized by the Pambei-led UNLF from different places were set on fire in front of the office of Anju-man Islah-E-Muashra near Lilong Dam, Thoubal district.
Displaying the drugs at their office before they were disposed of, Anjuman Islah-E-Muashra general secretary Md Habibullah said that drug smugglers and pedlars must get due punishment if they do not stop their trade.
It is a matter of grave concern that there are several reports of drug use including smuggling of drugs at a time when Manipur is passing through a very critical phase, he said.
In the course of a drive launched by the Pambei-led UNLF on June 5, many individuals were pulled up and 70 soap cases containing heroin (No 4) were seized.
"After the seized drugs were handed over to us, we are disposing of the drugs by setting them afire", Md Habibullah said.
The Pambei-led UNLF first pulled up Heibokmayum Ithem alias Wahajuddil (37) s/o late Kayajuddin of Lilong Leihaokhong on June 5.Twenty soap cases containing heroin (No 4) were seized from him.
Acting on the disclosure of Wahajuddil, three other individuals identified as Md Fayaz Khan (28) s/o Asrab Ali, Mayangmayum Champa (36) d/o M Salim and Mayangmayum Bobby (32) d/o late Mayangmayum Ali were also pulled up.
All three of them are residents of Hatta Makha Leikai and they were dealing in drugs together with Wahajuddil, Md Habibullah said.
Earlier on May 31, Chesabam Juma Khan of Irong Mathak Leikai was rounded up and 50 soap cases containing heroin (No 4) were seized from them.
Md Habibullah said that the Anjuman Islah-E-Muashra appreciates and supports the anti-drug campaign launched by the Pambei-led UNLF.
He also appealed to all drug smugglers and pedlars to stop their illegal trade.
