Imphal, September 07, 2009: Union Home Minister P Chidambaram has assured a delegation of BJP to look into the Khwairamband killing of July 23. A BJP led by its national spokesman Prakash Javedkar called on Chidambaram this afternoon and gave a detail account on the alleged abject failure of Chief Minister Okram Ibobi on all fronts.

"We have apprised the Union Home Minister about the worsening law and order situation in Manipur which we fear has the potential of resulting into a civil war if the matter goes out of hand," state unit BJP president H Borobabu conveyed over telephone.

The team urged the Union Home Minister to take necessary measures to topple Ibobi and impose President's Rule to save Manipur before it plunges into a 'civil war'.

"We told the Union Home Minister that over fifty percent of the insurgency related killings recorded in Manipur are fake ones staged by security forces and the recent July 23 shoot-out was one such clear case" Borobabu added.

Killings by state actors and sometimes by non-state actors have become a daily occurrence in the state and the Chief Minister, who is also in charge of the Home portfolio, cannot control the forces thereby giving them a free hand to act anything they like.

The Union Minister was apprised that the outburst of the people's pent-up anger in the wake of the July 23 fake encounter has gone up to the limit but the State Government has been working to suppress the civil movement by imposing curfew and detaining the protesters under the National Security Act, he said.

"We also informed the nexus between police commandos and some underground cadres in carrying out extortions and killings," Borobabu said.

Stating that the Judicial Enquiry instituted by the State into the incident will prove inconsequential and it would not be able to nail the guilty commandos, the delegation highlighted the futility of such enquiries in the past.

The BJP team urged upon the Union Home Minister to order a CBI inquiry into the twin killing for speedy trial.

"We are also attempting to meet Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh to highlight the same matter by tomorrow or the day after," Borobabu said.

Former Chief Minister W Nipamacha and the party's national executive member M Bhorot Singh are also in the team.
