Engaged faculty and non teaching staffs of DMU stage protest

Imphal, February 05 2021: Engaged faculty and non-teaching staff of the Dhanamanjuri University today launched a cease work strike and staged a protest against the order issued by the VC in-charge for recruitment of regular faculties by sidelining the service of the engaged faculties as well as the staffs.

The engaged staff who have been sacrificing for the survival of the University while denouncing the notification issued by the VC for recruitment of fresh regular staff strongly denounced the act and demanded immediate removal of the VC.

In the protest staged at DMC Multipurpose Hall, the striking faculties and the non-teaching staff strongly opposed the notification for recruitments of regular faculties and staffs by sidelining those engaged staffs and faculties.

President of the DM University Engaged staff Association Naorem Romikanta said that the association will not tolerate such injustice to the engaged staff which makes possible the existence of DMU.

Imphal Times had also earlier put up questions about the fate of the students earlier.

This paper in its editorial had stated that as the university completes its more than two years of existence, the onus lies on the authority to come out with a clear explanation on who constitutes the teaching and non-teaching staffs of DMU.

In case of its failure to answer, a technical crisis over its identity would put the fate of the post-graduate courses run in the university at risk for the simple fact that no teachers have been legally assigned to deliver such an academic activity.

Another aspect of the identity crisis of DMU has reportedly come from its technical inability to fulfill the criteria 12 (B) of the NAAC.

The crisis is seemingly large because NAAC in its proposed assessment is to treat the institute (DMU) not as a college but as a University.

For instance, under the provisions of 12 (B), any institute applying for NAAC accreditation needs to submit a list of its teaching faculties.

The tragedy is that DMU as a university that has no list of such approved teachers.

Since DMU cannot fulfill the 12 (B) requirements, the status of DMU as a full-fledged University to be recognised by the University Grants Commission is for sure to have procedural complications.

The repercussions have been more significantly felt by the poor students of the university while accessing their rightful scholarships under UGC.

There will be various question mark to the fate of those students if in case new recruitments without absorbing the engaged faculties leaving aside the fate of the University itself.
