Imphal, August 03 2009: Close on the heels of the Tehelka expose' on the BT Road incident, Manipur People's Party (MPP) today urged Governor Gurbachan Jagat to dismiss the SPF Government and submitted a memorandum in this regard to him today.

Alleging that the leader of the State Legislative Assembly, Okram Ibobi Singh tried to mislead the House and the people of the State on the BT Road incident by giving false information on July 23, the memorandum asserted that O Ibobi does not have the moral right to continue any more as the Chief Minister.

Demanding that the Magisterial Inquiry constituted by the State Government be cancelled, MPP also pressed for a Judicial Inquiry into the incident to be headed by a seating Judge of the Gauhati High Court.

FIR case must be registered against the involved police personnel, said the memorandum adding that the case must also be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for fairness and transparency.

It added that the involved police personnel must be kept under suspension immediately.

MPP also demanded appropriate compensation to the families of those killed and injured.

Speaking to reporters at its office today, MPP president Dr Nimaichand Luwang said that a team of eight members of the MPP discussed the matter with the Governor for about 90 minutes today.

He said that the team informed the Governor regarding the sentiments of the public and the ground reality of the present situation of the State.

The Governor assured the team that he would take a concrete decision after taking additional inputs from other organisations, agencies and the State Government.

Taking part in the press conference, MPP Legislature Wing leader O Joy said that it has been a Parliamentary tradition everywhere that the leader of the House steps down, if he tries to mislead the members by providing false information on the floor of the House.

MLA RK Anand said that the CM's statement on BT Road incident, delivered on the floor of the House was a sign of deterioration of the democratic sancitity in the State, and everybody must put in their mite to restore it.

He also lauded the media for playing its democratic role in checking this erosion.

RK Anand said that the media came out with the much needed truth at a very crucial juncture.

Commenting on the excesses of the police commandos, the MLA said that no organisation or individual can ever prevail against the will of the people.

He also cautioned the commandos to control themselves before the public demand for complete abolition of their organisation.
