Following show cause notice served on Assistant Professor

Imphal, September 30 2022: Demanding withdrawal of the show cause notice served on Assistant Prof Dr N Sanatomba of Manipuri Department, students of Manipur University gheraoed the office of the Registrar today.

A large number of students gathered at Manipuri Department in the afternoon and marched to the Administrative Block.

They then gheraoed the office of the Registrar.

However, neither Registrar Prof W Chandbabu nor any other responsible officer were present there.

As such, the students sat down inside a room and raised slogans.

As the police personnel present there could not control the students, additional police teams arrived at the spot.

However, the students locked the room from inside.

Later, Registrar Prof Chandbabu came and talked with the students.

As the two sides could not come to any sort of understanding, the students and the Registrar went to the office of the Dean, Students' Welfare and held another round of talk.

But the MU authority as well as the students refused to divulge anything or make any comment after the meeting.

Notably, a show cause notice was served on Assistant Prof Dr N Sanatomba in connection with a speech he delivered on certain 'sensitive issues' of the State during a debating competition held at the conference hall of MIMS on September 25 .

The notice said that Dr N Sanatomba should submit a written reply to the Registrar by September 28 .
