Imphal, June 22 2012:
To register protest against the National Commission for Human Resources for Health Bill, 2011 and Clinical Establishment Act, doctors of the State, both in the private and Government hospitals would cease service and stage sit in protest on June 25 (Monday) .
Speaking to the media today at the Manipur State Branch Office of Indian Medical Association, President of IMA, Manipur Branch, Dr Kh Palin said the sit-in protest would be staged in front of the Medical Directorate at Lamphelpat from 10am till 1 pm.
All doctors in the private and Government run hospitals would refrain from normal daily routine though they will respond to emergency cases.
Dr Palin said the protest would be held all over the country.
He said the Indian Medical Association (IMA) vehemently oppose the setting up of National Commission for Human Resources for Health Bill, 2011 which proposes to replace independent regulatory bodies such as the Medical Council of India (MCI), Dental Council of India (DCI), Pharmacy Council of India and Nursing Council of India with new National councils, including a Paramedical Council.
Stating that the Clinical Establishment Act restricts the treatment of patients at home or rented houses, Dr Palin said the public will be worst affected if and when the Act is implemented.
Secretary of IMA, Manipur Branch, Dr S Gojendro said a memorandum would be submitted to the Chief Minister and Health Minister in this regard.
Expressing regret that doctors would refrain from duty on June 25, Dr Palin further added that the stir is to be taken up for the sake of the future.
