Chief Minister O Ibobi and Deputy CM Gaikhangam joined in offering tributes to Major Amit Deshwal of 21 Para, who succumbed to injuries yesterday in an encounter with suspected armed group, Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) in Nungba area of Tamenglong district.
Besides the CM and Dy CM, DGP LM Khaute, IGP L Kailun and various high ranking officials of the Indian Army, Assam Rifles, CRPF, BSF and State forces today paid tributes to the deceased army officer at 12 Bihar Regiment post located at Malom before the body was flown home.
Father of the deceased Subedar (Retired) Rishi Deshwal offered tributes and 3 Corp Commander, Lt Gen Abhay Krishna (AVSM, SM, VSM), Red Shield Division GOC Major Gen SS Mishra (VSM), IG AR (South) Major Gen VS Shrinivasan (VSM), and officials of the CRPF, BSF and representatives of the Governor paid tribute to late Major Amit.
Major Amit hailed from Jhajjar district in Haryana.
3 Corp Commander Lt Gen Abhay Krishna (AVSM, SM, VSM) commented that setback do occur in life but no setback can deter the Indian Army.
"We will continue with the job entrusted to us," he added.
PRO of PIB, Defence, Imphal, Lt Col Ajay Kumar Sharma stated that Major Amit followed the ethos of the Indian army� 'Nation before self' and gave away his life for the country.
The mortal remains of Major Amit was airlifted from Nungba and a post-mortem was conducted at RIMS mortuary.
The body was airlifted in a special plane of the Indian Air Force from the Imphal airport to his native place later today.
