The All Manipur Young Pioneers� Organization (AMYPO) has called for indefinite suspension of all forms of entertainment and festivals in the state with effect from tomorrow protesting the obstinacy of the state administration and continued imprisonment of the agitators including AMSU leaders.
It also demanded immediate resignation of Governor Ved Marwah on moral ground.
On the other hand, the All Political Parties� Forum, the BJP Manipur Pradesh, the All Manipur Bar Association and the High Court Bar association, Manipur have, urged the state government o immediately and unconditionally release the AMSU leaders and others who have been jailed in connection with the recent anti-ceasefire extension agitation.
The All Political Parties� Forum, said the rigid stand of the state administration under President�s rule that the arrested agitators would be release only on signing PR bonds, has added to creation of further tension.
The forum felt that the vitiated atmosphere must be defused, and appealed to the administration to withdraw all FIRs and, in a �magnanimous manner of reconciliation�, release all the arrested in connection with anti-ceasefire agitation.
A meeting of office bearers of BJP Manipur Pradesh today with M Bhorot Singh, president, in chair strongly demanded the immediate release of the jailed students and others.
Unconditional release of them would be the right step of the state government if it is sincere in normalizing the situation in the state.
The All Manipur Bar Association, in a letter to the Governor today, expressed its view that the recent mass uprising was spontaneous, and urged the state government to release the jailed agitators without any condition in the larger interest of the general public.
The High Court Bar Association, Manipur, during its special executive meeting today, resolved to move the state and Central government to grant �general amnesty� to, and close the cases against, all the persons including those at present lodged inside jail.
