Police have arrested four women, including two Gram Panchayat members and one Meira Paibi secretary, on alleged charge of having nexus with underground organisations apart from participating in chappals throwing incidence at the residence of YAS and IFC Minister N Biren Singh at Luwangshangbam yesterday.
The arrested women have been identified as Mangsatabam Loitangjao Devi (40) w/o Jobomani of Luwangshangbam Mayai Leikai, Mangsatabam Phajarei Devi (57) w/o Iboyaima of Luwangshangbam Awang Leikai, Mangsatabam Leima Devi (46) w/o Tolen, of the same locality and Nongthombam Inao Devi (40) w/o Robindro of Luwangshangbam Mamang Leikai.
All four of them have been reportedly arrested on the basis of the compliant report lodged by one personnel of 2 MR (guard commander) posted at the residence of the Minister, with Heingang police station.
The complaint report mentioned that the residence of the Minister and the sentry post were attacked.
It may be noted here that the chappal hurling incident took place in response to the call of the JACs formed against the killing of Rabina and Sanjit in the July 23 Khwairamband Bazar incident.
Demanding punishment of the police commandos involved in the killing and resignation of the Chief Minister on moral ground, the two JACs had earlier announced to launch agitation against all Ministers who are still showing allegiance to the Chief Minister.
Meanwhile, all the arrested four women were produced before the Court of Judicial Magistrate First Class, Imphal late in the afternoon today.
Later on, the Court granted remand, of all four of them, to police custody for 7 days.
They have been charged under Section 124-A/147/148/149/443/427/511 of IPC read along with Section 7 of Criminal Law Amendment Act and Section 39 of UA (P) Act.
According to their family members, Loitangjao and Phajarei are members of Luwangshangbam Gram Panchayat of two different wards while Leima is the secretary of Luwangshangbam Awang Leikai Meira Paibi Lup and Inao is a housewife.
The family members further informed that all four of them did not take part in the attack at the residence of the Minister.
Yet a police team from Heingang Police station came at around 3 pm today and arrested them.
In connection with the ongoing public agitation over the July 23 incident, so far 26 protestors have been arrested by the police.
Out of them 15 including six women and 9 men have been remanded to judicial custody.
