IBSD organises workshop / hands on training programme

Imphal, October 25 2024: BRIC-Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD) in collaboration with the Department of Science and Technology, Government of Manipur has successfully organised a workshop cum hands on training programme on "Entrepreneurship development from mushroom cultivation" at IBSD, Imphal.

According to a release issued by IBSD, the training programme was inaugurated by Th Biswajit Singh, Minister of Science and Technology, Government of Manipur.

Addressing the gathering, Th Biswajit expressed the importance of self-sustenance, employment generation and start-ups in the region.

Prof Pulok Kumar Mukherjee, Director, IBSD, highlighted the various outreach activities carried out by IBSD for the societal benefit in the NE region.

He also encouraged the promotion of entrepreneurship development on mushroom cultivation and using other bioresources of NER in future.

The team of IBSD research group under the leadership of Dr Pulok Kumar Mukherjee has carried out the exploration and comprehensive survey of wild mushrooms from various districts and habitats of Manipur for studying the nutraceutical and therapeutic properties.

During the training programme, 30 progressive farmers of Imphal were trained on successful cultivation techniques of two commercially important mushroom species, namely split gill mushroom/Kanglayen, Schizophyllum commune and Oyster mushroom, Pleurotus ostreatus.

The workshop further demonstrated the detailed know-how of scientific spawn production of mushrooms.

Certificates along with Kanglayen spawn and grow bags were also distributed to the trainees.
