Rs 2 cr each earmarked for dist hospitals: Tonsing

With the State Government paying extra attention to the health sector, Rs two crore each has been incorporated in the State's annul budget for setting up hospitals having capacities of 100 beds in all the districts of the State.
This was stated by Health and Family Welfare Minister Phungzathang Tonsing at the inaugural function of a PHC building at Komlathabi, Chandel district today.
The health centre was first established as a PHSC in 1979 before it was upgraded to the level of a PHC in 2011.Later, a new building was constructed for the PHC and it was inaugurated today.
Phungzathang rejoiced that the age old bond of fraternity shared between hill people and plain people was clearly visible at Komlathabi.
Efforts are on to upgrade the capacity of Chandel district hospital from 50 beds to 100 beds.
Necessary funds would be released in phase-wise manner based on work progress.

Although the cost of Komlathabi PHC is Rs two crore, Rs one crore is yet to be released on account of the State's sick financial condition.
Once the pending amount is released, all the shortages of the health centre would be made up to the maximum possible level, Phungzathang assured.
He also called upon doctors and nurses to work with a sense of dedication in public interest.
He further assured that all efforts would be made to provide an ambulance to the PHC.
While asking all doctors and patients to avoid pregnancy related deaths as far as possible, Phungzathang claimed that Manipur has the second lowest pregnancy related deaths in the entire country, and for this spectacular achievement Manipur was rewarded handsomely by the Government of India.
He also sought cooperation from the public so that doctors and nurses can discharge their duties to the satisfaction of all.
MLA DK Korungthang stated that the Komlathabi PHSC was upgraded to the status of a PHC in view of Komlathabi's thick population.
He too appealed to all doctors and nurses not to grudge when they are posted in hill areas.
Chandel DC Robert Kshetrimayum and Health Director O Ibomcha were also present at the inaugural function.
