Thoubal, October 23 2026:
The 48-hour general strike called by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) formed in connection with the killing of Laishram Rakesh severely affected normal life in Thoubal district today.
The strike, which began in the morning, affected normal activities across the district, disrupting daily life in several areas as general strike supporters gathered and blocked roads at areas of National Highway 102 namely Athokpam Arong Thong, Khangabok Bazar and Wangbal.
Major market places of the district such as Thoubal Keithel, Yairipok Keithel and Wangjing Keithel bore a deserted look as shops and business establishments remained closed.
Schools and colleges remained shut and passenger services were off road.
A JAC member, Abung Khuman while speaking with regards to the JAC's demand, appealed to the public to extend their support to the ongoing 48-hour general strike, calling for justice in connection with the death of Laishram Rakesh.
'Arrest all those involved in the killing of Laishram Rakesh, and we will immediately call off the general strike', he said.
