NABARD conducts meeting on development of aquaculture and fisheries

A meeting to discuss the issues and challenges related to the development of fisheries and aquaculture in general and coldwater and aquaculture in particular in Manipur was held at NABARD Office, Lamphelpat in Imphal today.
The meeting was joined by by Dr Promod Kr Pandey, Director, ICAR-Directorate of Coldwater Fisheries Research, Bhimtal, Uttarakhand and Partha Mandal, GM/OIC, NABARD, Manipur RO along with Dr Rameshwari Yumnam, Assistant Professor, Zoology Dept, MU, said a release issued by NABARD.
Notably, Dr S Khogen Singh, Senior Scientist-cum-Head, KVK, Ukhrul; Dr Manoj Kr Pandey, Senior Scientist-cum-Head, KVK, Churachandpur and other senior officials from NABARD including Bendang Aier, DGM, NABARD, Imphal were also present at the meeting.
During the meeting, the gathering discussed how to improve the socio-economic status of fish farmers of the State through development of aquaculture and fisheries.
Dr Pandey emphasized on establishing "Re-circulatory Aquaculture Systems" (RAS) for "Rainbow Trout" culture for the hilly terrain of the State.
Emphasis was also given on developing aquaculture using indigenous fish culture, namely, Pengba, Ngaton etc.
The gathering agreed to have aquaculture development in the State in convergence mode by including all stakeholders such as progressive farmers and entrepreneurs, bankers, KVK officials, academicians from MU and other institutes, officials from ICAR, FPOs, SHGs and Directorate of Fisheries, Imphal.
Mandal agreed to help the development of blue economy of the State through liberal financing from banks, PMMSY and NABARD schemes.
