Training programme on organic farming commences

A 4-day training programme on "Organic farming of fruits, spices and vegetable crops" was inaugurated at the training hall of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Thoubal yesterday.
The training programme is being organised by KVK Thoubal under the sponsorship of Manipur Organic Mission Agency (MOMA), Department of Horticulture and Soil Conservation, Manipur.
The training is held as a part of Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North East Region (MOVCD-NER) Scheme Phase-IV.
The inaugural programme of the training programme was graced by KVK Thoubal Head Senior Scientist Dr S Zeshmarani; MOMA Project Officer AK Somorjit; District Horticulture Officer, Thoubal Khaidem Malemnganba Meitei and KVK Thoubal, Subject Matter Specialist (SMS) Horticulture Dr Kh Premlata Devi as the presidium members.
Speaking at the occasion, Dr S Zeshmarani deliberated on the importance of organic farming and its multiple benefits which include enriching the fertility of the soil.
She stressed on the need of promoting agriculture and its allied activities such as horticulture, veterinary, fishery etc to successfully implement organic farming practices in the State.
She maintained that one should inculcate the habit of practicing organic farming from their own homes which can be later developed into a large scale and appealed to all to resort to the healthy practice of organic farming.
During the training programme, resource person will impart knowledge on various topics such as marketing of organic products, organic input production; production of quality planting material of organic spices crops, organic cultivation of ginger and turmeric, AESA(Agro -ecosystem analysis based on bio-intensive management of biotic stress in ginger and tumeric), organic cultivation of pineapple, king chilli, Agro -ecosystem analysis based on bio-intensive management of biotic stress in king chilli, organic marketing for Small Business' Tailoring Strategies for the success of Farmer Producer Organization (FPOs) and organic input production and value addition of spices crops etc.
Furthermore a field visit will be carried out at Heinoukhong Village in Heirok.
