Rape accused remanded to judicial custody

Imphal, February 14 2022:
Special Judge POCSO Imphal West remanded 21 year old Lairenjam Naoba into judicial custody for alleged sexual assault on a minor girl on February 8 afternoon.
The accused Lairenjam Naoba s/o (L) Mera of Lairenjam Awang Leikai was produced before the court after the completion of Police custody period by a team of Women Police Station Imphal West.
The IO of the case submitted before the Court that on February 8 evening, the mother of the victim lodged a complaint that on the same day at around 12.30 pm her minor daughter was forcefully threatened, kidnapped and confined in an unknown place by the accused and forcefully raped her.
The complainant also mentioned that she came to know that accused already has a wife and 2 children hence a case was registered for the investigation.
On the same day, the accused was arrested and upon interrogation he admitted the charges leveled against him and it has been ascertained that the accused had sexual assaulted the minor and if he is released on bail he may tamper with prosecution witnesses or the minor victim threfore the IO requested for judicial custody remand for the smooth investigation of the case.
The Court after hearing the submission of the IO and on perusal of the request submitted, the Court remanded alleged accused into judicial custody till February 28 .
