MSF points to more inconsistency in HSLC marks

Imphal, July 13 2018: Manipuri Students Federation (MSF) has claimed that it has also found various inconsistencies and errors in the mark allocation regarding the HSLC Examination 2018 conducted by Board of Secondary Education Manipur.

A press release issued by the general secretary of MSF today claimed that a student who was supposed to secure a position in the examination did not as 14 marks were deducted from the Home Science score of the student without any reason while another student who would have passed in the 1st Division, was given only 7 marks in Social Science when the student should have scored 27 marks.

It informed thatthe student whose 14 marks were deducted for no reason is identified as Pariton Langpoklakpam (Roll No 46725) of PishumthongOinam Leikai and was a student of Nongpok Maheikol, BrahmapurAribam Leikai.

MSF claimed that Pariton who is supposed to score 79 out of 80, was given 14 marks less and awarded only 65 marks.

The examiner who examined Pariton's answer script first clearly wrote on the paper that Pariton scored 79.marks.

But the most unfortunate thing is that the Board announced that the student had scored 65 marks in Home Science, MSF alleged.

When an application was submitted for re-scrutiny, BOSEM replied that there was no change in the marks.

It explained that if the initial mark given by an examiner is corrected by another teacher or the Head Examiner later, then their signature is required but in the answer script of the said student, there were no signature of the involved teachers.

Deducting 14 more marks from an answer script which was previously checked and okayed by an examiner, is the first of its kind in BOSEM's history, it claimed and added that even if 14 marks were deducted from Home Science, Pariton scored more than 90 percent in the exam.

He scored 90 in MIL, 94 in English, 92 in Mathematics, 90 in Science and 89 in Social Science.

He would have scored 85 marks in Home Science.

On the other hand, one Chingakham Chingdrenkhomba Meetei (Roll No 44767) of Halley English School, Soibam Leikai, failed in the exam because he got only 7 marks in Social Science.

However when his paper was sent for re-scrutiny, it was found that he had scored 27 marks and had come in the 1 st Division.

MSF continued that the student has failed to get admission to his school of choice due to BOSEM's error.

As such it is right for BOSEM to give necessary compensation to the student as well as find out the erring individuals and take up necessary actions.

MSF alleged that the rising incidents of error and inconsistencies after declaration of the HSLC examination results is a sign that the Secretary, Chairman in-charge and the Controller of BOSEM are not deserving of their posts.

MSF further said that the clarifications and replies given by the Secretary, Chairman and the Controller of BOSEM, regarding the scandal, raises question as to whether MLAs and Ministers are appointing their close affiliates to such high posts.
