BJP executive meet dissects state issues, hails PM's commitment
Source: Chronicle News Service

Imphal, July 10 2024: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Manipur Pradesh on Wednesday held an executive meeting during which the prevailing conflict in Manipur was discussed, and adopted resolutions including steps to restore peace in the state.

Meanwhile, chief minister N Biren Singh stated that whether the Prime Minister visits the state or not depends on the situation.

Wednesday's meeting was held at the party's Thambal Shanglen, here, in Nityaipat Chuthek from 10am till 3.30pm.The meeting was attended by CM Biren, BJP Manipur Pradesh president A Sharda, union minister of Law & Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal, BJP North East Region in charge Sambit Patra, national party leaders, state ministers and members of the party.

Speaking to media persons after the meeting, CM N Biren informed that during the meeting, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's third term was celebrated.

He said that the two warring sides have begun talks on the matter and various resolutions adopted including measures to bring peace to the state and preventing further recurrence of the violence.

The meeting also observed a two-minute silence in respect of all those who have died or been displaced by the conflict.

CM Biren further said that the sub committees formed to take care of all those staying in relief camps are visiting the relief camps to interact with the residents directly.

The meeting also adopted a resolution to look into roads and bridges affected by the recent floods.

Responding to a question from media persons, CM N Biren said that the coming of the PM to Manipur depends on the situation: It is Congress' own opinion that the PM needs to visit the state.

However, the state government has been in regular contact with the PM and working under his leadership with regard to relief, security and other aspects.

Meanwhile, the state executive meeting extended its heartfelt congratulations to PM Narendra Modi for assuming office as the Prime Minister of India for the third time, thereby setting another milestone.

It observed that under the leadership of Narendra Modi, the NDA government has propelled India to become one of the top countries over the past decade.

The government's persistent efforts to promote equality across various sections of society through numerous social welfare schemes have earned the trust of the people, resulting in the NDA-led government being re-elected for a third consecutive term.

Several key initiatives such as PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana, PM Awas Yojana, among others have significantly benefited youth, women, farmers, entrepreneurs, and marginalised communities who have historically been overlooked.

These initiatives ensure progress towards a developed and inclusive India, embodying the vision of Viksit Blharat, Ek Shrestha Bharat? This state executive further acknowledge that PM Modi consistently addressed the Manipur issue, including in his speech almost a year ago on August 10, 2023 in the parliament (Lok Sabha), where he highlighted union home minister Amit Shah's invitation for a detailed discussion on Manipur, which the opposition unfortunately refrained from participating in constructively.

The PM had assured citizens that peace would soon be restored and reiterated the country and Parliament's support for the people of Manipur.

In his (PM) Independence Day speech on August 15 the same year, he reiterated that peace is returning to Manipur and emphasised the solidarity of the nation with its people, with both state and central governments collaborating closely to achieve peace.

During his speech in Parliament (Rajya Sabha) on July 3 this year, PM Modi emphasised that the government's efforts have resulted in a decline in violence in Manipur.

He stressed the on-going dialogues between the centre, state government, and all stakeholders to resolve issues peacefully, while acknowledging that the unrest and violence in Manipur have deep-seated origins spanning many years, implicitly referencing governance during previous periods.

Thus, the state executive wholeheartedly endorsed PM Narendra Modi's speech in Parliament, urging cooperation across political lines to restore peace in Manipur.

Under his leadership, efforts are diligently on towards normalising the situation in the state, and significant progress has already been observed with a gradual restoration of normalcy.

Further, the meeting firmly believed that sustainable peace is within reach and anticipated peace and progress to soon prevail throughout the state.

The state executive also expressed its gratitude to the central government for initiating fencing along the Indo Myanmar Border to curb illegal immigration from neighbouring country and commended the central government's decision to revoke the Free Movement Regime (FMR) between Myanmar and India, a move that has garnered widespread approval.

Additionally, the state executive extended its support to the Manipur Legislative Assembly's resolution to implement a comprehensive National Register of Citizens (NRC) for Manipur, to address the looming demographic challenge posed by illegal migrants from neighbouring countries.

It also acknowledged the state government's efforts in combating illegal encroachment in reserved forest areas and its aggressive stance against drug trafficking, including the eradication of poppy plantations in remote hill regions.

Expressing deep concern over the on-going situation in the state since May 3 last year, it appreciated the visit of union home minister Amit Shah (for three days continuously) , and MoS of Union for Home, Nityananda Rai (for 25 days continuously), and their stay for extended period of time, underscoring the Centre's commitment and concern for the state during this tumultuous period.

The house is satisfied with the proactive measures taken by both the state and central governments towards the resettlement of all displaced persons affected by the conflict, mentioned the resolution.

It also noted that Manipur has faced unprecedented natural calamities such as massive hailstorms and floods.

The state government has efficiently mobilised resources to address the needs of affected communities through effective state machinery.

The meeting then extended its heartfelt gratitude to all the voters for their overwhelming support to BJP candidate Th Basantakumar Singh in the recent Lok Sabha election.

The meeting unequivocally opposed the divisive policies of Congress party, particularly attempts to misguide the youth of the society.

BJP Manipur stands firm in its resolve to counteract such divisive strategies and policies, it said, while affirming its steadfast commitment to safeguarding the values of unity and integrity, which are crucial for the harmonious progress of state and nation.

It is imperative that we remain vigilant against any attempts to sow discord and division among our people and strive to uphold a unified vision that promotes peace, prosperity, and inclusive growth for all sections of society through collective effort and unwavering dedication to our principles, the state executive stated.

Lastly, the state executive also acknowledged and appreciated the sincere contributions and dedicated teamwork of party leaders, members and supporters in realising the state government's people-centric welfare initiatives under the motto "We will leave no one behind" .
