Training programme for IDPs inaugurated

A 4-day training programme on 'Kauna Grass Craft Products' for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) was inaugurated today at the relief camp of Rice Research Station, Khangabok.
Deputy Commissioner Thoubal Ahanthem Subhash IAS inaugurated the training programme which is being organised by the District Administration Thoubal.
Assistant Commissioner Thoubal Arbin Hanglem; Lata Handicraft proprietor Khundrakpam Lata and Master Trainer Angom Sangeeta who is an inmate of the relief camp also graced the occasion as the presidium members.
Speaking in connection with the training programme, the DC Thoubal said that the training programme is being held with an aim to generate a regular source of income for the IDPs taking refuge at relief camps and to help them in improving their social and economic status by imparting skill development training.
He assured that the IDPs will directly get the profit of the products made by them without the involvement of middlemen.
From the Government's side, Manipur Handloom & Handicraft Cooperation and the District Administration Thoubal will purchase the various items made by the displaced persons, he added.
The DC also highlighted that the District Administration Thoubal has been conducting various welfare programmes and skill development training for the IDPs taking refuge at the relief camps namely Kodompokpi Sports Complex, Rice Research Centre Khangabok and Lamding High School to promote the well-being of these displaced victims and to make them self-reliant.
He informed that a variety of products made by the displaced persons including Kauna products, candles and detergent items worth around Rs 7-8 lakhs have been sold till date.
On a positive note, the demand for these products made by the displaced persons are on a rise, said the DC.
The DC also lauded the newly posted Assistant Commissioner Arbin Hanglem for taking up measures to increase the sale of the products made by the displaced persons by fostering ties with many firms in the State and beyond.
