EE appeals for co-operation in Tamenglong-Tamei Road work

Imphal, October 30 2011: Disturbances being caused to the construction work of Tamenglong-Tamei Road, which is to be made double-lane with funding from North Eastern Council (NEC), may lead to cancellation of the project; Executive Engineer-II of PWD N Brojendro has expressed concern.

Talking to Hueiyen Lanpao, EE Brojendro pointed out that although three Special Contractors have been entrusted with the task of constructing the Tamenglong-Tamei Road, these three Special Contractors have again engaged a large number of sub-contractors under them.

Special Contractor H Bikram of Kongba is to take up the work from 0 km to 17 km.

From 17 km to 34 km, it is the responsibility of Special Contractor N Chaoba of Uripok to do the job while the road construction work from 34 km to 47.70 km is the responsibility of Special Contractor N Mani of Thangmeiband.

Under the project, the width of the road is to be expanded from the existing 3.7 metre to 5.5 metre for making it double lane.

The department has just started the earth work but some people have started creating disturbance.

Such undue disturbances may lead to cancellation of the project by NEC and it would be the loss of the people, the EE cautioned.

In this connection, he recalled the incident of stalling a project related to road construction work at Churachandpur last year following extortion demand of Rs 50 crores by ZRF and subsequent diversion of funds to some other projects.

To ensure similar fate does not befall the Tamenglong-Tamei Road construction project, the co-operation and support of the people is essential, EE Brojendro pointed out, while observing the department would welcome suggestions from the public if they have any grievances over the road construction work.

It may be noted here some miscreants set on fire a Dozer and an Excavator while another Dozer was pushed into a gorge near Dailong village in Tamenglong district in the intervening nights of October 21 and 22.The dozers and the excavator were being used for the road construction work.

Dailong Village Authority, Tamenglong and District Protection Joint Forum, Tamenglong have come out strongly against the incident.
