Organisations conduct surprise drives, seize expired goods

Volunteers of Tangkhul Mayar Ngala Long (TMNL) Youth Council today seized expiry goods worth Rs 60,000 (sixty thousand) from Ukhrul market.
The volunteers of TMNL seized around 22 expired items from 34 different shops of the town during its surprise drive.
The seized items were chocolates, sweets, fruit juices, soaps, mineral waters, edible oils, shampoos, deodorants, face wash gels etc.
Briefing the Ukhrul media's at the TMNL office, View land, the president of TMNL Thanmi said as a warning to the shop keepers, a sum of Rs 500- Rs 2000 were fined as penalty for selling expiry goods depending on the quantity of the seized items.
All the shop owners were asked to sign undertakings before the TMNL office that they would not sell any expired goods or eatables which might be hazardous to health.
TMNL would take befitting actions against any shopkeepers who are found selling expired products in the future, he said.
In a separate drive, Anal Naga Students' Union Chandel on Monday seized expired goods worth thousands of rupees, said a statement of the union Tuesday.
Strict instructions were given to the retailers, shops not to hike the price of the goods above the Maximum Retail Price (MRP), said the union.
The union has further alleged that the goods on sales in Jaophou Bazar are way above the prices elsewhere in the State.
The union further advised the retailer/shops not to increase the prices of goods during bandhs and blockades.
Strict actions will be taken against any retailer/shops who are found selling expired goods/products in future, said the union.
