After Manipur, Salai aims to establish power projects in Nepal

Imphal, February 18 2019: Having taken up all necessary steps to set up hydel projects in Manipur, Salai Holding Pvt Ltd has embarked on a challenging mission to take up similar steps in Nepal, a big leap in expanding its power venture beyond the National borders.

The Imphal-based fast growing company's chairman Narengbam Samarjit Singh and its economic advisor Mirolav Tym from Czech Republic, held the first round of meeting for establishing the power projects with Nepal's Minister for energy, water resources and irrigation, Barshaman Pun "Ananta" at Kathmandu today.

A Salai statement sent from Kathmandu said the maiden meeting was successful with Barshaman Pun showing keen interest in the project.

"The Minister promised to extend full cooperation to take up the hydro project at the earliest and also asked for convening the second round of talks in no time, the statement added.

Towards fulfilling its power venture in Nepal, Salai has already established its constituent unit christened "Salai Destiny Pvt Ltd", at Kathmandu.

In December last, Salai inked a deal with Mavel, a prominent Czech Republic hydel turbine manufacturing company at Prague for setting up mini power projects in water-rich Manipur.

Mavel, which sells the-machines in over fifty countries including Canada and the US, will give logistic support to Salai in setting up the power projects in the State.

Currently hectic process in the N Biren Singh Government is on to set up the hydel project as a pilot task at Sekmai barrage in Imphal West district, a Salai senior executive said.

Once Nepal gives its green signal to set up the power projects, Salai will coordinate with Mavel, he said and added that they have also identified other sites in Manipur for setting up the same.

Currently, the State Government is buying power from big companies at exorbitant cost and selling the same under the subsidized rate to the State consumers, losing huge amount of money from its exchequer.
