Imphal, November 14 2011:
The Governor of Manipur has been urged to direct the government of Manipur for setting up Manipur State Lok Ayukta to curb corruption in high places, improve the standard of public administration and administration of justice by looking to complaints against administrative actions including cases of corruption, favouritism and official indiscipline in administrative machineries and various organs of the state.
In a memorandum submitted to the Governor, Advocate and Human Rights Defender Yengkokpam Priyokumar Singh of Khabam Lamkhai pointed out that setting up of the institution of Lok Ayukta in Manipur is essential for good governance and transparency as per the recommendations of Administrative Reforms Commission.
While most of the states including Karnataka, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Jharkhand, etc have already set up Lok Ayukta, Manipur is yet to initiate any steps in this regard, although the government of Manipur has become a vestige of corruption.
