Tearful farewell to a Titan
Mortal remains of B Jayantakumar consigned to flames

Imphal, April 10 2015 : Thousands of people from all walks of life gave a tearful farewell to B Jayantakumar Sharma on Friday morning.

He had expired in Regional Institute of Medical Sciences on Thursday after a brief illness.

The body was kept in state till Friday morning so that his numerous friends, admirers and associates in various fields could bid the last goodbye.

On the second day on Friday hundreds of people in mourning attire thronged his modest home at Bamon Leikai from 8 am onwards.

They paid floral tribute.

Later the body was taken to the Nahabam Basket ground so that people of the locality could pay floral tributes to the departed Titan.

Local MLA E Chand, theatre personality Ratan Thiyam, flim maker A Shyam Sharma and many other prominent personalities from various fields came to show the last respect.

Later the mortal remains were consigned to flames.

Condolences pour in .

Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh and several organizations have offered deepest condolences on the passing of noted writer and lyricist B Jayantakumar Sharma on Friday.

In a condolence message to the wife of late B Jayantakumar, CM Ibobi stated that he was deeply saddened to learn the passing away of the noted writer.

On his demise the State has lost one of the greatest lyricists of "our time" and a great personality whose life was dedicated in the field of art and culture, the message said.

It said his departure has created a void which may perhaps never ever be filled.

"I join you in grieving this loss and in extending to you and your family my heartfelt condolences.

I am aware that it will be difficult to come to terms with this grievous loss and that words are scant consolation at such a time," Ibobi said.

He added, "I pray the Almighty that his soul finds eternal peace and you and your family members be granted the strength and fortitude to bear this loss.

Naharol Sahitya Samiti Premee Samiti, Nongmaithem Pahari Memorial Trust, Lalit Kala Sangam, Imalol Khorjei Lup, Imphal (IKHOL), Progressive Writers' Association, Manipur-Chapter, Hijam Guno Foundation (HGF), Sheirengbashingee Apunba Lup, Manipur (SHAL) and Manipur Shahitya Parishad, Bishnupur District Branch, Bishnupur and Macha Leima have condoled the demise of B Jayantakumar Sharma through separate press notes.

JNMDA staff, teachers and artistes mourned the death of B Jayantakumar Shrma during a condolence meeting at the academy auditorium.

A two-minute silence was also observed as a mark of respect to the late writer.

Manipur Sahitya Parishad, Imphal also held a condolence meeting on the passing of B Jayantakumar Sharma at the Parishad office.

Prof Elangbam Dinamani presided over the meeting.

Teachers and students from Manipur in Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) held a meeting to condole to the demise of noted writer and lyricist B Jayantakumar Sharma at the residence lawn of Dr A Bimol Akoijam, a faculty at JNU.

The meeting recalled the contribution of B Jayantakumar Sharma to modern Manipuri songs and socio- political consciousness that came about in mid-twentieth century in Manipur.

The meeting then observed a one-minute silence as a mark of respect to the departed soul.

Seram Mangi Singh Foundation, Imphal has deeply mourned the sudden demise of the noted cultural activist and eminent lyricist of Manipur B Jayantakumar Sharma.

In a meeting of the Foundation held today at its office at Singjamei Kshetri Leikai, the members recalled the valuable contributions made by Jayantakumar Sharma towards the development of Manipuri music and literature.

The members adorned the late cultural activist as the immortal soul of Manipuri music.

B Jayantakumar Sharma, during his lifetime, served as the advisor of the Seram Mangi Singh Foundation and also took commendable role in the activities of the Foundation.

Observing two minutes silence for the peaceful rest of the departed soul, the members of the Foundation also shared the grief of the bereaved family.

The All Manipur Sound Service Association, Leimarol Khorjeikol (LEIKOL), the Welfare Association for the Blind, Manipur and Ideal Blind School, Takyel, Imphal also mourned the death of the renowned lyricist and writer.

CENI Writer's Guild Manipur, and Writers Club Manipur, Nambol also condoled his death.

The Department of Adult Education/State Literary Mission Authority, Manipur organized a condolence meeting at Directorate of Adult Education conference hall, Babupara in connection with the sudden and untimely demise of B Jayantakumar.

CPI (M-L) Liberation, Manipur State Committee, Communist Party of India, Cine Artistes Technicians Association, Manipur, Naharol Chaokhat-Hanba Kanglup too condoled the death of B Yayantakumar.

The meeting chaired by Abdus Salam, Joint Secretary, Adult Education and Additional Director (AE) Member Secretary, State Literacy Mission Authority, Manipur recalled with gratitude various contributions made by the late multi-faceted personality in the field of Adult Literacy in the State.

Staff Directorate of SCERT, Lamphel also held a condolence meeting on the passing away of the lyricist, chaired by its director at the office premises.

The meeting observed a two-minute silence as a mark of respect to the departed soul.
