48-hr bandh called along Imphal-Ukhrul road

Imphal, October 06 2012:
The JAC which was formed against the abduction of Irungbam Irabanta by suspected NSCN-IM cadres on May 27 last has called a 48-hour bandh along Imphal-Ukhrul road with effect from midnight of October 19 .
The bandh would be followed by an indefinite bandh from October 22 in case the State government fails to trace the whereabouts of Irabanta till then.
Announcing this during a press conference at Manipur Press Club here today, Amakcham Radhamani, Convener of the JAC, pointed out that the JAC had earlier submitted a number of memorandums and representations to the Union Home Minister, Chief Minister and Home Minister of Manipur in connection with the abduction of
I Irabanta.
Moreover, a number of agitations have been launched with the support of various CSOs and meira paibis of the state.
But still, the state government has not been able to locate the whereabouts of Irabanta.
If the state government fails to find out the whereabouts of Irabanta by October 19, the JAC would be compelled to launch a 48-hour bandh along Imphal-Ukrul road with effect from the midnight of October 19 till midnight of October 21, and it would be followed by an indefinite bandh along the said road, Radhamani stated categorically.
