Education Minister Moirangthem Okendro has pressed the Union Human Resource Development Ministry for upgrading DM College of Science, Arts and Commerce into a deemed University.

The meeting was inaugurated by Kapil Sibal, Union Human Resource Development Minister.
During the meeting, Minister Okendro stated that Manipur does not lag behind in comparison to other states in the field of human resource development and this has been clearly indicated by the outstanding performance of Md Ismat, a student from Manipur, in the CBSE conducted AISSC Examination, 2012.Yet, lots have to be done in the field of education in the state and if the Central government pays a little attention in this regard and give a helping hand Manipur could produce more Ismats in future.
The Minister pointed out that although the Centre has given approval for the establishment of Indira Gandhi Tribal University in Manipur, the construction process has not been started.
The Central government needs to give more attention in this regard and do the needful.
He also brought up the issue of the killing of Loitam Richard in Bangalore and urged the Union HRD Ministry to bring justice in the interest of the North East students.
