DESAM inspects

As part of its continued effort to bring quality
education in the State, Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur
(DESAM) inspected the condition of Serou Bengali Primary
School and Wangoo Laipham Upper Primary School on August
18 last.
In a statement, the students' body said that Serou Bengali
Primary School which has 54 students is plagued by infra-
structure and manpower inadequacies.
The school has only three rooms and only one teacher, who
is also the Headmaster.
Two Government teachers identified as Kh Kuber and A
Ibungo who joined the school a few months back never came
to the school after their joining, the statement said.
As such, the Headmaster has engaged two teachers pri-
vately to run the school, which has Class I to V.The salary
of these teachers are provided by the Headmaster from his
pocket, the statement added.
On the otherhand, Wangoo Laipham Upper Primary
School, which has 159 students has only five Government
teachers.
As such, local Meira Paibees have engaged eight more
teachers at the salary of Rs 3000 per month, the statement said.
DESAM expressed concern over not paying attention to
such schools which are giving education to needy children.
The students' body urged the Government to look into the
matter seriously.
