Imphal, July 19 2024:
The All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC), Manipur State Committee has appealed to the State Government to take necessary steps to address the grievances and demands raised by the ASHAs workers.
In a release, AITUC Manipur State Committee said that despite their crucial role during the COVID-19 pandemic, ASHA workers have not received adequate support or recognition from the Government.
The AITUC asserted that ASHA workers were instrumental in performing tasks such as home visits, contact tracing and spreading awareness about COVID-19, often without proper protective equipment or timely payment for their efforts.
The AITUC mentioned that the Government should acknowledge the significant role played by ASHA workers in the health care system at the grassroot level and should grant them recognition as an employee and improve their working conditions.
Highlighting that ASHA workers are given an honorarium of Rs 3000 only, with Rs 2000 given by Central Government and Rs 1000 offered by State Government, the AITUC urged the State Government to increase the State's share to Rs 15000.Further, the AITUC appealed to the Government to take necessary steps to address the demands of the ASHA workers at the earliest.
