Imphal, January 17 2023:
The Hill Tribal Council (HTC) has appealed to all civil society organisations (CSOs) and individuals to extend support in the fight against the drug menace.
A press release issued by HTC said that the initiative taken up under the leadership of Chief Minister N Biren Singh to make Manipur a drug-free State is praiseworthy.
Saying that the Council has been carrying anti-drug campaigns in Moreh from-time to time, the HTC claimed that the people of Moreh, however, have often been painted as drug dealers by the deeds of 'outsiders' including security agencies.
"What could be more unbecoming and shameful than a law custodian becoming a law breaker," the HTC said.
Claiming that the seizure of heroin and WY tablets from commando personnel on January 16 last yet again exposed the clandestine practice of illicit business going on within the security agency, it asked the State Government to take befitting actions against the security personnel from whom the drug was seized.
The Council nonetheless said that they are ready to cooperate with the security agency in its mission to prevent drug smuggling at the border town.
The people of Moreh never wanted posting of commando in Moreh, the HTC said.
